Title: Strombergshyttan sculpture of a fish

Hi all

I have a Strombergshyttan signed engraving of a fish into a block of glass on the base of which is the code P382 and what looks like the artists name.  Trouble is, I can neither date this piece nor figure out who the artist might be.

The artist looks like "Glaci" or "Glaui"

Is there anyone who might point me in the right direction.

Also, I saw a comment once here that there was a Swedish glass forum out there somewhere - does anyone have the address?

P is not a usual Strömbergshyttan code.
Try the "Konstglas"forum at http://www.antikviteter.net/antikprat/
and make sure you include a picture.

There was another Strombergshyttan piece with a P number prefix listed on tradera.spray.se website. The auction is finished so the page has gone but if you go to Google and enter strömbergshyttan +p282 into the search box you should get a result - click the Cached copy of the page link and it will bring up the auction details - it's in Swedish so I can't tell you what it says, except it appears to be something to do with a Viking ship.

Ivo, could the P number prefix be a new category for these sort of paperweights/sculptures do you think?

almost certainly somewhere in the list of Askfat - Blomvase etc, but P is stretching my Swedish.

You have more Swedish than me Ivo!  :lol:  The online translation site didn't know what a paperweight was (!) but offered papper vikt for paper weight.  I'm not sure how accurate it is colloquially - I'll ask my son to ask his Swedish girlfriend later tonight when he gets home.  8)

Gosh!

I'm a bit red faced that I didn't think to chech Ebay USA really, but the shape is absolutely identical, although the number is quite different.

I have learnt, very interestingly, from the Swedish glass message board that the sculpture dates from about 1977, close to when Strombergshyttan closed down (Orrefors bought them out about 30 years ago) and although most of the original people from the factory had left, the design is in their influence so to speak.  Which makes sense really, as the piece is not really Orrefors style.  The carved word on the side still eludes identification though.

My son's Swedish girlfriend confirmed there is no direct translation for paperweight, but she would say papper vikt for this object. HTH :)
