Title: Iridescent vase – help with identification please
Post by: owly on July 25, 2008, 11:37:31 AM
Hello,

Can any identify the maker of this vase please?

It measures 6 ¼ “(16 cm) high by4 ¼” (11 cm) across the widest part of the top.

I understand the twisted shaping is called wrythen.

There is a rough pontil on the base and there is a nice iridescent shine to the glass.

Thank you for your help.

Could this be a Stourbridge maker or perhaps Whitefriars?

Hello Tigerchips, thank you for taking the time to reply, you’ve given me something to search for on Google. I know very little about glass- except the sort that comes from Woolworths!

Since I posted this topic, I’ve had more of a look round this site (it’s very good isn’t it) and have searched on “resolved glass queries”. I’ve come across John Walsh Walsh who seems to have made some similar glass, ‘though I haven’t found the same shape. Does anyone know if it’s likely to be by that firm?

Hi Owly,
very similar Walsh Walsh on this page,

Someone else may give you more definite id. (Bernard?)

Hi Andy,

Thank you for the link. It does look similar to the one on that page.
