Title: Thomas Webb Glass
Post by: jal on July 28, 2008, 12:56:40 PM
Hi, I have recently purchased a glass vase,  marked as Thomas Webb late 19th century. No markings underneath, approx. 5.5" tall, 4" max.diameter,  with white glass, cased in pink, with a zig zag pattern.
Would like to know if it is in fact Thomas Webb, and any other info., as I cannot find any in books I have or websites.
    Regards, John.

I would say perhaps not Webb from the unfinished pontil mark, perhaps Bohemia

This is a rose bowl in satin Mother-of-Pearl (MOP) glass. The pattern could be described as zigzag or Herringbone which is fairly common and used by several US and English makers as well as in later Murano reproduction pieces.

Johanna would have your giblets for calling this a rose bowl. Apparently a rose bowl is globular with or without crimps - but without any outgoing elements. It is thus a vase - but for the rest your description is 100% CORRECT.
