Title: Is this Carnival vase an Imperial Ripple one?
Post by: Anne on August 17, 2008, 10:45:41 PM
Having googled and googled I *think* this is an Imperial Ripple vase, but would be most appreciative if it could be confirmed please.  Height is 10", base diameter is 3", colour is marigold (clear base), base has a 20-point star pattern.

Steve thank you, I knew I'd seen this somewhere recently and couldn't find it on a search of the board.  ::)  (Shall have to poke the search algorithm with a sharp pointy stick to make it work properly!!!  >:D)

It does look just like yours here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,20815.0.html and like yours mine isn't marked either so it should be an original not a repro. Fingers crossed that Glen will pop by and confirm that. :)

This one belongs to a friend of mine and had a tag with it, I can't tell if it matches your's or not.  But it might be worth a look.

Mod: link removed as domain has been changed and now serves adverts and popups, not glass!

I would have said Fenton Fine Rib, yours doesn't seem to have the vertical ripples.

Yes, Ripple. No doubts and highly unlikely to be a reissue.

Imperial's Carnival was imported in huge quantities into the UK in the early 1900s and their ads in the Pottery Gazette usually showed a Ripple vase. Their re-issues are much more easily found in the USA (rarely seen in the UK) and are marked with the Imperial IG or the later Lennox LIG.

The Ripples are swung vases and the pattern is often quite distorted by the swinging. They are one of the most easily found Carnival vases in the UK. In my opinion they are lovely and look stunning filled with fresh flowers. The purple ones are especially delicious.

Janice, your friend's vase is also a Ripple. The tag is a great addition - thanks for sharing.

Christine, I looked at Fenton Fine Rib but it's not the same as mine. The vertical ribs are there - just not too clear in the picture.

Glen, thank you as always, I hoped you'd confirm it for me.  :-* It really is a lovely vase - even filthy dirty and on a table buried under a load of clutter it looked promising, but washed and polished it is, as you say, stunning. How it survived intact under all the clutter is a mystery for sure! It's now safe in its new home (or its new home until my mother sees it and claims it for her collection!  :D)
