I'm sure there was one of these at the Kings Lynn exhibition; down in the corner between the Frantisek Koudelka and the wall of Borske Sklo.

There are similar pieces in the Beranek catalogue, but nothing quite the same.

Any ID, please?

If you are referring to the blue vase that is faceted on four sides with trailed decoration around it, it is Chinese. I have several in my shop that I purchased about 3 months ago for about $12.50US. They were made for a company called Crystal Clear, and had the name Fifth Avenue Crystal Ltd. on the carton. It was called a "Saturn" vase made in several different colors, you may find it on their website: www.crystalclear.com. They were originally made to retail for $50.00US.

Thanks for the info, Tom.  That would appear to nail it.  I'm not surprised, to be honest.  The quality of the piece points that way.  I was kind of hoping that Beranek would have higher standards  :D

Thanks for the link, but there's no trace of it on the website.  Looked at a bunch of their retailers' web sites, too, but no sign there either.

Is Crystal Clear mainly a Chinese wholesaler, do you know?

Crystal Clear has been importing for many years. Probably over 50. They import from China, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Turkey, Romania,  etc. They get glass wherever they can find the right deals. I think they initially imported from Germany after the war as many others got their start this way. If you send me a PM I'll try and send you a pic of the piece and the carton just for your confirmation.

That's fine, thanks.  I trust you.  ;D
Like I said, I didn't really think the quality was good enough for what I was hoping.

Chris, can I add your photo link to my thread on Chinese art glass?  It'd be kinda useful to keep all this new Chinese stuff together I think.

Hi,
I'm sure I saw this and similar related ones in TK Maxx recently. I admired them at the time but was a bit short of the readies, so returned a week or so later with the intention of making a purchase and found that they had all been sold. I think they were being sold for around £20 each and I really thought they were a bargain at that.

Surely, Max.  Go for it.  It's not my vase, but the owner doesn't mind in the slightest.

Thanks Chris, I'll probably just link in this thread actually...didn't think of that earlier!  Duh!  Btw, it's a very nice looking piece.   :) :)

Yeah, tis, but the coloured cased middle is skew-whiff, as are the ground facets on the side, and there are too many unintentional bubbles in the clear part.  It just feels wrong. "Not good enough", if you know what I mean.

I'm sure that Graham had one of these in the Kings Lynn Czech exhibition, but we all goof.

It's great that Tom knows where they're from.
