Granite can chip too, but I would have thought glass was at the very least chippable even when so thick.

(Obviously, not as we know it!!!!)

The bottom line on molecular structure is that no molecular structure is "solid"!
Glass is a "super-cooled" liquid. So are pure metals.
I presume this is why molten glass in the pot is referred to as the "metal"?

the funeral parlour around the corner has had a glass poohbear in their shopwindow, a monument for the little beloved & dearly departed, for at least five years....  8)
