Title: Orange bowl coated in white stuff
Post by: Tigerchips on September 16, 2008, 07:23:42 PM
Couldn't think of a better title...

...Maybe it's white enamel? It looks like the same stuff that's on the outside of my Waverley bowl. It rings like a bell but i'm not sure if it's the shape that makes it do that.

There are signs of ware on the base but that might not mean anything. To me, it looks recent, perhaps from Ikea or something like that?

Why not glass? Try and scratch it, there are colouring coatings used on drinking glasses and bottles that are epoxy based and UV fused, giving a very thin coat 'almost' as tough as glass.

It scratches easily with a pin.  I think it's just clear glass with a coating of orange, then white.

It will be a plastic type coating then, more recent types, post 2000, don't scratch as easily. Probably done by one of the decorating companies.
