Hi all,
I have recently found myself collecting Caithness vases, with swirl designs - as seen in the picture.
Ebay is a great place to sniff out these items!
But i am wondering where i can get these items brand new, or any other caithness design for that matter. I have been trawling the internet to find somewhere that sells Caithness stuff OTHER THAN PAPERWEIGHTS! But i'm stumped.
Can anyone help?
-
Ask Caithness for a list of their glassware retailers. or online at http://www.caithnessglass.co.uk/stockists/
-
Hi Frank,
I have tried this and its slim pickings from where im from, East Anglia area, and even London doesnt offer much. Harrods stocks caithness but, again, its all paperwieghts!!!!
I'm really struggling to find Caithness crystal except off Ebay. Its very frustrating. :(
-
Phone them.
Scottish charity shops are full of Caithness too.
-
I should call Caithness themselves or the individual shops?
-
Caithness, they know who buys their glassware.
-
Well i have now found out that since Dartington bought them out, they only make paperweights now.
So i guess my next mission is to find places or people who sell second hand items that i'm after.
Dont suppose you have any ideas there?
-
Charity shops, Glass Fairs, Specialist Auctions and eBay.

I have two pieces I'll be selling - I'll photograph and put them in the for sale board if you're interested
-
Are they like the designs in the picture i posted? I collect this design and the other colours that relate to it. Pink/white, purple/blue and the black obviously. I'll have a look. Thanks! :)

You should upload a bigger picture, have you ID'd the design name (incomplete) here (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=7&Itemid=51)?

I've found that its the flamenco - chinese vase, possibly the midnight design. There were lots of different colour patterns used on the vase designs.
-
Colours used can help to date production, at least once there are a lot more in there. Where the year introduced is known it is included along with which catalogues each colourway appeared in. Shapes were used across all ranges.

what ive been trying to research is whether caithness made glasses and decanters to fit in with any of their ranges.
its how i got into the whole thing to start with. i happened to buy this decanter set and 6 glasses (2 of which smashed through delivery :(), and i swear they were exactly the same design as this little pink caithness vase. mydecanter got put up the loft before i could check to see if it was stamped, so i really must dig it out. but it was really heavy based, which i was told was a sign of quality. since then ive been hooked on these little glass vases and bowls. i've looked in the catalogue and they all seem to range from the late 90s. but whether they made decanters in this flameco design, i dont know. i have seen wine glasses advertised Ebay though!

I have really taken to the designs by Domhnall Obroin (hope I have spelled his name correctly!), and the neodymium glass made by Caithness. I have managed to get quite a few together, including the large lampbases and a decanter and I have them for sale in my antiques unit. If you are anywhere near Barnsley then you could call in :)
-
Afraid not sorry, i'm from East Anglia. Bit of a treck. Caithness do make decanters then... I don't suppose you know if they did any in the flamenco style - like my picture at the top... only mine has pink/white swirls - not black/white.
-
Scotland's glass have some pictures of decanters. The one I have got is the Morven.
