Title: Murano Bowl
Post by: Pat on October 05, 2008, 02:18:01 PM
I know this is Murano but is it generic Murano or can it be traced to a factory. I'm leaning to generic because of the sloppy base finish. The polished has slipped and polished out a shell of glass on the side at the base. Bowl measures approx. 4" x 4.25" on the top and is 2.25" tall.

Pretty bowl. The colors remind me of colors used by Seguso AV and Livio Seguso for several of their pieces.

I have had several nice pieces that had gouges in the ground bottom. There are certain Seguso (particularly Archimede) sommerso designs that I even expect to see gouges on the bottom. What you're describing sounds a little different, though, like the polishing was done in two plains. If so, it could have been done when it was made or a later to repair a chip. I have seen some repairs that would have been best to do without.
