More rummaging finds, which I cant see on the presglass site. The candlestick holder is particularly interesting with the three 'prongs' and I love the tall vase - looks art nouveau in style to me but is it later? And the milk jug is part of a set with a sugar bowl
TIA

the last green one is very much VSL, but what has happened to the left of yours#??
-
Hi,
Pink bowl identified here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,20628.0.html
Candlestick is Czech, almost certainly from Libochovicke Sklarny a.s.
Third and fourth images not a clue, sorry.

Marcus

Chloe — Much as I am unworthy of disagreeing with the best turned out man ever to have attended a Glass Fair, he's wrong about the stick.
It's Bagley 3103 Duchess, see the Pontefract Museum example here (http://www.wakefieldmuseumcollections.org.uk/index.asp?page=item&filename=bagley.mdf&itemId=WAKGMP%20:%20P2001.268).

Hi Bernard,
Interesting. This is almost certainly another example of the commercial advantage taken by Bagley, following the passing of the Patents, Designs, Copyright and Trademarks (Emergency) Act 1939. Another known example of this occurence, is Bagley's "State" pattern trinket set, which was composed of various Libochovicke Sklarny a.s. patterns, some designs of which were registered by Hoskins Rose Ltd, which Bagley also put into production in late 1939.

Let the museum know, so they can get it attributed correctly. Now how is the Czech version distinguished from the copies?
-
Marcus — Apologies, I thought the 1333 D was the only such item.
The State 3098 trinket set is to be seen here (http://www.wakefieldmuseumcollections.org.uk/index.asp?page=item&filename=bagley.mdf&itemId=WAKGMP%20:%20P2001.269).
The only other multiple manufacturer item I know, also made by Walther and Crown Crystal, is Wyndham 1333 D, launched PG 1st April 1936, seen here (http://www.wakefieldmuseumcollections.org.uk/index.asp?page=item&filename=bagley.mdf&itemId=WAKGMP%20:%20P2004.480/a), as opposed to the earlier Wyndham 1333/0, launched PG 1st September 1934, seen here (http://www.wakefieldmuseumcollections.org.uk/index.asp?page=item&filename=bagley.mdf&itemId=WAKGMP%20:%20P2001.114).
I've never been happy about 1333 D being Wyndham, despite its being given the name in a 1950s trade catalogue. The pattern is not right. One unexplored possibility is that the 1333/0 mould was damaged beyond repair, and they bought the mould for 1333 D from Walther as a replacement.

Thanks all!
Pamela, the last one is the milk jug from the set, so the left hand side is the spout! Thanks for the bowl. Any hints as to which one of the two my candlestick is?!
Any thoughts from anyone on the vase (my favourite piece!)?
-
Hi Chloe,
Not easy to tell, I know the Czech factory items came in two qualities, one, very low, with unfinished bases, and one very high quality, with mirror-polished grinding of the base.
No apology is ever necessary, our knowledge advances, and we all work together. What new information comes from Czechoslovakia, increases our comprehension of the contemporary political and social factors which will lead to a better understanding of developments in both UK and Czech glassmaking history.

Marcus

Thought I'd ask on here rather than new topic - are there any good price guides for pressed glass? At the moment I'm so excited to be able to id all the pieces I see I just tend to buy them up ;D
I could do with even just a less value to best value kind of scale!!
-
Sorry - more questions!
I've just realised that the sugar and creamer are slightly different colours (one is more limey), and also slightly different handles. Any ideas?
-
Probably different times, different moulds. The limey one might be uranium glass
Short answer to pressed glass value guides - not not really. Values guides for glass tend to be American. The only way is to spend a lot of time on ebay looking at what sells and what doesn't and looking at other online shops
-
Thanks - the last post had pictures of both the creamer (1st two pics) and the sugar bowl )2nd two)

Hi Marcus and Bernard,
Does that mean that Bagley was plagiarising the patterns? If so, then is it possible to tell the difference? Could not Chloe's or the museum piece still have been made by Bagley?
Thanks
Cathy.
-
Does that mean that Bagley was plagiarising the patterns?
Hardly plagiarising, they had been given carte blanche by the legislation to rip off anything they liked from any company, in any territory occupied by the Nazi war machine. This is discussed further elsewhere and soon be available, so forgive me if I cannot really give a fuller response here.

Marcus
