Title: Possible Czech? Vase ID = "Asteroid" by Zabkowice
Post by: Shazza on October 10, 2008, 02:19:13 AM
I was wondering if anyone could shed more light on these few pieces I picked up the other day? This unusually textured bubble vase I thought was Scandinavian at first. Now I am more inclined to think Sklo Union/Czech simply on the base treatment. I am probably way off. Its very heavy. 14cm high and 22 cm wide. Smooth on the inside - textured exterior.

Would greatly appreciate any help on maker.

Cheers,
Sharon

Hi,
very close, not way off..... Polish, "Asteroid" vase, designed by Jan Sylvester Drost, and made by Zabkowice glassworks. If memory serves... a "Gute Form" prize-winning design in 1974.
Regards,
Marcus

Thank you so much Marcus - you are brilliant! I can't wait for your book to come out btw :-)

One ID down two to go.
