I have just done a trip to the antique shops in the West of NSW Australia and picked up a few glass pieces. This one I discarded as Chinese then came back to have another look. The store owner said the consignment was from a reliable source and the base looks like it has some age. I was concerned about the moulded looking base lacking the pontil of Murano.
It was covered in dust and had been their a while so I argued to myself that I liked the colour and would live with it anyway.
Weight 1.45 k's (3.3 Ibs) Size 34cm (13 1/2") long, 14cm (5 1/2") wide, 14cm (5 1/2") high.
Any ideas anyone about this.

Sorry, but it doesn't look like vintage Murano to me. I haven't seen this color or texture in their good vintage glass. Maybe it is vintage from another place.

Hi Anita maybe the Oom's have it. I had never seen a base like that either, I guess you win some and lose some!

It's certainly an odd piece, needs moving to glass

Gee, reminds me of my piece....a bit. Unknown too. http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,22954.0.html

Hi I can see the similarity in the side edge clear but the base is entirely different mine shows a oblong from the top . Wonder what it is? maybe the glass area is a better place for it.

Could it be chalet? That would explain the murano-esqueness of it. Mind you, from Canada to Australia is a very long distance. But it's been known to happen (with humans anyways, so probably their belongings as well.

Hi Carolyn
Many Canadians came to Australia in the 60's for mining and construction of the Snowy Mountains Hydro scheme as it was the largest in the world at the time.
I looked through a lot of it and you could be right. The colour matches and the clear edge (although in Murano as well). I didnt see the style of mine but that is not too surprising. Couldn't see many of the bases so still not sure about that but I will continue looking.
Will accept this as Chalet until I see a piece similar.
Thank you

I think the clue is in the base, it's been made in a mould (Rose's blue one too). In fact it looks like it's been pressed, then hot worked rather than blown into a mould then hot worked. I think Chalet has the more common flat bases you find on Czech and Murano pieces. I could be completely wrong of course

Hi Christine I think the clue to these pieces is in the base. Mine is certainly worked from a mould and is very smooth on the inside of the mould.
