Hi - this is my first posting but I hope not my last. I have been a collector for many years but only in this last 6 months have I really started to collect in earnest - mostly Whitefriars and any other art deco. To make room for my new additions I have had a clear out. Most I have managed to identify but I am not so sure about these pieces. I believe they are Victorian but have not seen anything really matching it to be able to identify and value.
Your help will assist me in deciding whether I keep, take to the charity shop, or sell.
The photo isn't too clear - the pattern is ivy leaves. Condition except for 1 tiny chip on sugar bowl very good.
Thanks in advance :)

I dont know if you've seen this site before, but I've found it very helpful in id'ing pressed glass

ETA: Oh, I forgot to say hello!!! I'm fairly new here but it's a fabulous & helpful site. Enjoy!

What are the dimensions of these pieces? I suspect they are "miniature" in scale, not the typical 4-5" tall cream jug and 6-7" d. sugar basin?
My wife and I have the miniature set in black, very attractive but no manufacturer's markings.

Thanks for a speedy response it looks perfect

Hi sugar is 3.5 " heigh - sugar 2.5 " high Thanks

Same size as ours in black! We bought our set (10-12 pounds, as best I recall) just recently on Portobello Road.
There are other items with the "ivy leaves" motif. We have a large crystal celery holder, but again no mfgr's markings at all.

Thanks James that's really useful

Hello:
This nice little set can be found in cobalt blue, teal, black and clear in this individual size. As well, there is a full size set of cream, sugar basin and celery vase. I have found the first two full size pieces in cobalt blue, black and clear. There is also a posy vase that looks like it matches this pattern.

Thanks Sid that's good to know. Do you know who the manufacturer was ?

Over the years I've seen this design attributed to more or less every British manufacturer, including little-known firms like John Ford & Co. of Edinburgh, A.M. Allen of Glasgow, and Edward Bolton of Warrington. The difficulty is that there has never been a shred of evidence in favour of any of these assertions. Indeed I am not even certain that Edward Bolton, in particular, actually made any pressed glass at all.
This pattern has the distinction of being my longest running mystery, as I bought a black sugar and cream in it during my first few weeks of dealing in glass, a long long time ago.

Thanks that's really interesting. I will hold onto my little mysteries as they really are very sweet !!

Hi,
One possibility for this set is Davidson. They made a covered sugar (No 157) in this ivy leaf pattern.
In my list of glass in storage I have for box 34 (which is buried deep in may garage) 'Davidson ivy leaf sugar and cream'. What I cannot remember is whether I wrote Davidson because it has the lion trademark or because it's similarity to the No 157 covered sugar. Unfortunately It will be a while before the archeologists unearth box 34 for me !

Chris
