It was thought that this little jelly glass was an Early Sky Blue Whitefriars, or even an Alsatian Blue Powell piece, and many experts disagreed on it. But as many said no as said yes! ::)
However, when compared with another Early Sky Blue WF item and an Emerald WF item, the colour seems to be somewhere exactly between the two shades  So the conclusion would seem to be that it definitely isn't WF.
So now my question is, if not WF then who did make this? Webb and Stuart have been suggested. Has anyone any other ideas?
I've attached pictures of the glass with and without flash, because the flash photograph more clearly shows the fact that it's ribbed, and the photo's of the foot and the base show how it was constructed, and the polished out pontil mark.

Many thanks in anticipation of expert advice :)

Is the foot sort of solid? What height is the glass?
-
Hi Christine! No, the foot isn't solid. It is sort of domed, and the curved base of the body of the glass looks as if it is 'sitting in' the foot, almost like an egg in an egg-cup. My second picture sort of shows this.
I always forget the sizes, don't I? :-[ ::) It's 4 & 1/4 " or 11cm tall, 3 & 1/2 " or 9cm diameter at the top and has a 2 & 1/8" or 5.5cm diameter foot. The glass is very fine and rings like a bell when 'pinged'.
Thank you very much for asking :)

I saw something today when I was having a little skive that looked vaguely similar and was part of a harlequin set. However, now I know it was nothing like yours. Glass was too thick and heavy

Leni — Whitefriars production for Wuidart was in slightly different colours. Have you eliminated this possibility?

Not eliminated it 100% Bernard. As I say, all the Whitefriars experts are pretty much divided on this one  ::) But my 'Main Man' Ray Annenberg thinks no, and if HE says no I'm inclined to believe him. Trouble is, I think the Wuidart catalogues were mainly line drawings, and the only way to be sure of the colours is to see other examples! So I'm a bit stuck :-\
-
... Ray Annenberg thinks no ...
Leni — Always be wary of experts, however good they are, saying "No", when they really mean "Not to my knowledge", "Not in my experience", "It looks unlikely to me", or something similar.
From your photographs the quality of your vase looks good enough to be by any one of several glassworks, including Whitefriars.

Well, as I said, as many of the WF experts said yes as said no! So I am totally confused now! :-\ I guess this is one which will remain with a question mark over it! ::)
Thanks again for your contributions, Bernard & Christine :)

I'm sorry I can't add anything really useful to this Leni, but it is a beautiful colour! However I do have a some blue Wuidart bud vases, which I will photograph so you can compare the colours.
-
I've finally managed to get a photo of the vases I promised. The second vase from the left is the one with the Wuidart label. The others are not labelled so I cannot guarantee they are all Wuidart colours, but they certainly look like they are from the same manufacturer.
-
Just a note to say Wuidart imported a lot of Swedish glass( which I am sure you know already).....I have seen a Wuidart label on something before which also said Swedish Art Glass. I have no idea what the Wuidart/Whitefriars labels looked like though, never seen one. Has anyone else?
-
There are two on my site, one in the 'Identification/Labels' section, the other in the 'Other Bud Vases' section. See below for a link. :D

Thank you, Emmi & Pat. It certainly looks a similar colour to the Swedish Wuidart bud vase! I wonder if the jelly glass shape could have been made in Sweden though :-\ It doesn't seem to me to be a typically Swedish design. Has anyone any examples of that shape or style of thing being made by any of the Swedish companies? I admit this is not an area I know much (or indeed anything at all ::)) about!
