Title: Signed Boda B Vallien and numbered - age?
Post by: uncommonglass on November 14, 2008, 05:40:10 PM
4.5" tall and 5.5 inches across.  Signed and numbered - what does the number stand for?  Does the piece have a "name"?  When was it made?  And are they still being made?  Thanks in advance for any info!

They started making these around 1979, I think.

The number is a production number, rather than a date code. They had stopped making them by 1994. They were made in a variety of shapes and sizes, at least nine that I know of, including a couple without the lattimo background.  I think yours is a later (around 1988?) model, judging by the production number.

Apologies! I was wrong in that last post. Trusting one's memory isn't quite as reliable as checking the printed word. The numbers do include a reference to the year in which the piece was first produced. The first number indicates form, with 5 being a bowl. The second two numbers give the year production started, so your piece started production in 1982. I think I also underestimated the  number of forms in the Rainbow range; it could be 20 or more.

Again, sorry for the initial error.
