Title: Id needed please Amethyst decanter and glasses - Exbor?
Post by: Littleblackhen on November 18, 2008, 10:39:50 AM
I bought a lovely thick chunky cut glass decanter at auction last week, and I was wondering if anyone could give me clues as to its maker.

It is really heavy, cut into art deco style shape (is it art deco or more recent?) with 5 glasses each of which are 6 sided and with very heavy bases.

I wondered if it could be  Exbor as it is in their style, but I don't know if anyone else produced similar style items?

Thank you Janice, it really is gorgeous - it was at an auction and I paid the most I have ever spent one one piece, and quite scared myself, but I love it.  I wish I could afford to keep it, but it will have to go in my antiques unit :(

Here are some more photos just for you to drool over  ;D

Is it Neodymium Glass?

Moser Alexandrite maybe?

I would have said the colour looks wrong for neodymium, not pink enough. Try it under a fluorescent light and see if it turns blue

That had me running from room to room and holding it under different lights.  I thought I detected a miniscule move towards being slightly more grey in fluorescent lighting, but certainly no very noticable change as I have seen in my other neodymium glass.

Shame - that would have been lovely ;)

Off at a tangent Neodymium glass is great for me in my antiques unit, because I can put it on one shelf and display it as pink glass, then move it across the unit to a different lighting the next week and have a whole new display of ice blue glass :D

I thought this decanter here had some points of similarity with mine, does anyone agree, or have a comment on this?
