Title: WMF Ikora / cellophane ??
Post by: soledivo on December 01, 2008, 11:26:35 AM

I've just come across this, it looks very similar to the one I have that Frank i'd'd for me as "cellophane" glass yet to be identified.

I haven't come across the name Ikora before, had a quick google, is it German?

I will be interested to see what you all think

That one is 'cellophane' glass - a name chosen for the cellophane-like appearance of the colouring. A long running mystery.

Ikora is German, made by WMF, a highly collectable and individual range, searches on WMF Ikora will get lots of hits, much is instantly recognisable once you have seen and handled a few pieces but there are some that would need a bit if research to ID/ It is never as thick as cellophane glass and always of high quality.

Sorry, but I disagree with this all-enbracing definition. Not only do I have pieces of WMF that are identical thinkness to examples of 'cellophane' glass, but I have handled many over the years.
