Title: Oberglass liqueur carafes
Post by: gismarc on December 03, 2008, 04:34:17 AM
Hi

These two items are identified as "Oberglass - Austria" and it would be greatly appreciated if someone could tell me if they have a certain value.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Hi welcome to the board

I believe Oberglas is generally quite low end. Those look to be pressed glass and have plastic covered stoppers, if so they will have little value

Hi Christine

Thanks for your help.  I'm a little disappointed.  However, I'll be able to sell them at the time of my next garage sale in the Spring at a low price.

I also have other glass pieces that I will post later on, when time permits.

Thanks again and have a nice weekend.

As a general rule, for the future,  even if you didn't know the name of the manufacturer, the plastic liners for the stoppers are a good indicator that they are not likely to be of great value and not very old. The plastic is an inexpensive way to avoid the extra work involved in grinding the stoppers to fit and provides a tight seal, often for decanters sold with liquids inside.  :)
