Title: Old, yes - but 1850s?
Post by: tropdevin on December 12, 2008, 03:14:40 PM
..
I have seen a number of butterfly paperweights in this style, but had assumed the unfacetted ones were mid 20th C Czech in origin. This (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=2&campid=5335820906&toolid=10001&customid=&ext=250331128856&item=250331128856) does look older than that, but I doubt it is 1850s.  Any views?

I’ve spoken with an Austrian collector of Bohemian weights; he has several like this one, and says they are from the 1920s.
