Greetings, have just acquired this fascinating figurine- Murano without a doubt. I have thought Seguso but my knowledge is sadly lacking to make a positive I.D. 14cm hight and 14.5cm wide in excellent condition with minor loss of glass covering on the wire core of the rope. There is a small oval paper label but nothing to indicate the maker. Any information would be appreciated. Any threads that you might spot are from my cleaning attempt-thought that I had got them all prior to taking the shots.
Many thanks Carol

The Czechs made figurative glass too, maybe that's another possibility to consider? Only a gut-feel, but the colours used here seem more Czech than Italian to me. Ready to stand corrected though, especially if you label reads 'made in Italy' ;) it's too small to see unfortunately. :)
Here's (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/A-1930s-CZECH-GLASS-FIGURE_W0QQitemZ170281491946QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Art_Glass?hash=item170281491946&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A13%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318)one I found.

Marvelous piece!! I think you are right that it is Murano. My first thought was Seguso, but I don't know the piece. The playfulness reminds me of something Pino Signoretto would do :-) Wonderful figurine. Quite a catch.

Hi,
I don't feel it as Murano. Colours and other details (example the fish shape) don't look typical of our local production.
Is it possible to have a bigger photo in the tread? Just to check some details
Thank you
Alex

The colors are definitely different than the Murano pieces I have seen. The amber reminds me of some of the modern pieces that I believe come from Thailand. The size is also a bit smaller than I would expect from a Murano piece with the theme. Maybe a closeup on the shape of the label would help some. It is a wonderful figurine, no matter where it came from.

Many thanks for all your informed replies- my leaning towards Seguso was primarily because of the fish shape, though having seen the eBay link there is now some further digging to do. Artofvenice- what part do you require a larger picture of. I admit I went a bit crazy with Irfanview!!! Any further comments would be welcome. The label has no legible printing on it-very small oval paper with some silver fragments.
many thanks Carol

I seem to recall a photo of a figure with a similar face sometime not so long ago. It was a Czech one but I can't recall any more... perhaps if we move this into Glass Marcus may pick up on it when he gets back.
Edit to add: Found the topic I was thinking of: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17255.0.html

There is an interesting Czech fisherman figure on eBay (330294336339). The eBay one is not as interesting to me as the one in this post. The face has similar detail.

Moved to Glass and subject amended to attract Marcus' attention.

I did a little searching under Brychta and found that the eBay figurine is a baker and not a fisherman. I thought it was a very funny looking fish. :) The baker was listed in a store as being in the style of Brychta.

Nah, that's Santa, delivering a lump of coal! His suit's at the cleaners, and he borrowed Rudolph's nose.
Fabulous figurine! He's even got waders!

Probably a Brychta item, though not necessarily made by him, but typical of Zelezny Brod production.

Ladislav Brychta was a professor at the Zelezny Brod glass school. My understanding is that it's not possible to distinguish works actually made by him from those of his students.
It's certainly in a style associated with him, especially the face but there were others working in this field. There is a whole series of figures in their work uniform. Most often seen is the dentist. I'm fairly sure there's a doctor also but these are in opaque colours unlike yours.
Use search to find more background on Brychta in previous discussions.
