Title: Expensive Caithness thimble
Post by: tropdevin on December 21, 2008, 08:35:48 PM
...

I own several Caithness thimbles, and they usually cost / sell for £10 - £15.  So what makesthis one (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=2&campid=5335820906&toolid=10001&customid=&ext=230313332370&item=230313332370) so special?

At first I thought it was outsize, as the advert suggests a 32 mm diameter top - but then it also says the thimble is 26 mm tall (standard size).  And the fingers look to scale for a standard thimble.

Any thoughts?

Alan

The seller specialises in thimbles and thus has a following probably. It is nice cane too, although not symmetrical, many are far less elaborate. But ultimately 2 people really wanted it.

Hi Alan

American buyer looks like a dedicated Caithness thimble collector - his last 25 purchases in just over a month have all been  thimbles, 24 of them Caithness ! and it seems price is irrelevant as he paid £102 for    this one   (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230313332411)

Best regards

Derek

It is good that there are still collectors who put desire before purse.
