Title: For The Love of Glass> Glass Displays.
Post by: glass on January 18, 2009, 03:11:03 PM
I'm very interested in how you display your glass. I believe glass is the best material to display, it lets through light and shows of rich vibrant colours and crystal glares.  I built this for the love of glass and would like to share it with you. Please upload your pictures to share with me, no matter how wacky or cool.

Thanks

 ;D At the GMB page!  It's lovely to have built in lights in an alcove type arrangement.  It really shows the glass off...as long as the lights don't get too hot!   :o

Here's some of mine.  You can just make out the stained glass window, top left.   :)

Hi Max, thats a fantastic display of scandinavian glass. On the bottom right shelf placed on the left you have three hooped type vases, can you tell me the maker and designer please?

As for the lighting, if you are using GU10 spotlights I recommend using the GU10 LED bulbs because they throw out very little heat compared to Halogen.

Thanks!  :)  I think the ones you're referring to are part of the 'Carmen' range by Tamara Aladin.  I've got a couple of bigger ones (one green, one red) on those shelves too, which are actually up the wrong way, as they should really be candleholders due to the depression in the 'base'.  ;)

Hi Sunny Beach
male or female please ? and where are you located, please?
Beautiful collection!
guess it depends on the mass you have/wish to show and or live with ;D
I, for my museum place had to chose the cheaper version: 5.5 metric tons! of Ikea Billy
for a look go to pressglas-pavillon.de/tv-movie in the lower left frame :-X

great displays of yours!!!  :)

i must admit i simply keep my glass where i find a space, e.g. window sills, shelves ... very messy-natured.
but at least found a place for my drinking glasses: i´ve modified an old reed organ into a cabinet

Hello Dirk, I admire your way of thinking, some drinking glasses can play a beautiful note just as well as an organ.  ;D

A great way to display.

my glass is displayed in a 'U' shape in my office.  I just use a wall bracket system and plate glass shelves.  The shelves are 8" from front-to-back, so I am not tempted to put pieces on display that will block a piece behind it.  This is the main wall and then there is glass to the left and right of it that covers another 5 ft. for the rest of the 'U' shape.  The majority of my collection is uranium/uranglas/vaseline/primrose pearline (depending on what you call it in your location).

 :spls:

MFI office shelving, bolted to the struts inside the walls, with extra shelves built up at the back, to give a stepped effect. Lighting not yet sorted.

Ancient pic, the shelves got a LOT more crowded. Am currently in the process of packing up stuff I'm not so fond of, and hoping to rearrange a different display.

:hiclp: absolutely brilliant displays everyone - especially breathtaking displays by Dave and Sue!!!! wow

I'm afraid our glass shelving is strictly utilitarian - no room for pretty displays unfortunately - two walls of our dining room have industrial shelves from ceiling to floor.  Whilst we've got everything ordered by maker/country everything sits pretty much cheek to jowl.

Are you going to post a photo then Pip?

well, I wasn't intending to but if you want I will - although to be honest it's a bit embarrassing compared to the amazing displays shown so far!  I did a year or so ago post some photos of my then, disorganised and untidy dining/stock room, thankfully it's all been tidied and reorganised since then.

My glass seems to be all over the house, often mixed with other non-glassy displays, but here's the latest picture of my 'Triffid' (mainly) collection.

Most of mine is either kept in a display cabinet and on the top of it, while all my large opalescent bowls have to be kept in the loft due to the space they take up

Would like to say I do like the Mdina display as well as all the vaseline thorn vases

It's because you're in the Cafe Nige. Cafe doesn't have image upload enabled (otherwise we end up with the image folder full of holiday snaps and cats and dogs!  >:D) - to get around that we set up a special album for the Cafe in GlassGallery here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=125 - but as this topic is getting such a lot of interest I think we should move it to Glass for now so that images can be added directly.  8)

Hi,
What wonderful pictures of your wonder glass!!  :hiclp:  I have pictures of our cabinets here
http://usera.imagecave.com/janice/MyPhotos/nbbbm/ (http://usera.imagecave.com/janice/MyPhotos/nbbbm/) , we had cabinets to the ceiling in our kitchen and when we remodeled we put in lighted cabinets.  There is a "square" that used to be a window behind some paneling and Joe made it into a display area in the dining room.  There are 3 cabinets in our living room and 3 in the family room.  Let's just say there's glass sitting around everywhere here!

This album also has pictures of my WWII collection, I like the Victory Eagle items and you know how things grow!  ;D

Love your blue Schmetterling, Nige!  she looks a deeper blue than mine   Or is it just that mine's high up against the light?  Does anyone know if there was a variation in the shades of blue Schmetterlings?  I'm sure I've seen lighter and darker Greta's!

Anyway, here's a couple more pics of my swans and Schmetterlings  ;)

These are my 4 Pierre D Avesn large bowls which due to the room they take up have  to now live in the loft along with a verlys and Etling

Hi Leni, love your Scmetterlings they are one of Walthers finest! Im looking for the amber one myself. You are correct about the blue I think they did deeper blue later on in the 50s or 60s,I have noticed the same blue in the Greta vases, pelikan frog and Irene vases.I also think that the part frosted Schmetterlings again were made later, like the pink and the deeper blue.I have seen once a part frosted green version! Would love that! You have made a marvellous display of your Schmetterlings I like it! Nige
