Hi,
 This thread on Powell, Stevens and Williams and Charles Kempton and Sons TALL VASES may interest some..... Always a difficult area for attribution.

It was an interesting read, thanks Patrick. There is such a tall vase at Craigside House in Northumberland. It's in straw opal and all glass if I remember rightly. I do remember thinking "Powell?"

Sorry for the photo quality but it was taken before the current standard of photography. The tallest champagne glas in the world made by Baccarat for Taittinger in 1993, contains a full nebucarnezar (20 bottles) of champagne.  It took 80 hours of work and 14 glass blowers and was made in a total of 6 copies.

Thanks Patrick for posting the link here to my thread on W'friarsdotcom-.-.-.-.-.-Now what about these "Tube Vases"? Also referred to in my Powell Catalogue 'A' but scribbled out(elegantly) so probably revised or discontinued.

The nearest I can get to identifying them would be this obvious 'Tube' structured vase(top Right 24") which appears in the MOL Whitefriars book(courtesy of the MOL) as part of their revised Catalogue A/B and which could I suppose be blown up to 72" in one piece ::)...any ideas?

Bernard: you mentioned on the Whitefriar's posting that you wrote to an ebayer who did not reply.  That would be Frank Keathley.  Here is a photo of his vase to give a perspective of size.  I took this photo, so have rights to it.

I had to wait a while before adding this, as I had the image but lost my notes and had to contact the source museum for details.

To go with the tallest vase in the word and the world's tallest champagne glass, it might be useful to have the world's tallest bottle to fill them with.

Extract from the museum's reply to me:

It is 7'8" tall ... ... On September 26, 1992, a team of glassblowers led by glass artist Steve Tobin, produced the World’s Biggest Bottle in the T.C. Wheaton Glass Factory at Wheaton Village. The 188-gallon bottle was blown during “Glass Blast” weekend, an event designed to celebrate the tradition of South Jersey glassmaking. It broke the previous record of a 108-gallon bottle made by Millville glassblowers in 1903.

7 feet 8 inches is, I believe, 2.33 metres. The 188 gallons is, of course, the US measure. For UK equivalent multiply by 0.8327 and for litres multuiply by 3.785. Whatever those work out to, it's an awful lot of liquid. ;D
