Title: Boda Unica

Small dish, just 2" high and 3.3/4" diameter (5 cms high, 9,5 diam) with spatter in yellow and blue. I immediately thought of Bertil Vallien "Artistique" series of miniatures from the 1980s - but the signature (on polished bottom) says "Boda  Unica  517/2".  Can anyone shed light on this?

I would have said it was his wife that is the desgner but I can be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.  ;)
I'm a bit wary of "Boda Unica, etc." If it's Swedish, then it should read "Unika".. don't you think?

Thanks, that is precisely why I asked.  Unik or Unikat is what I'd expect. But if stretched, it could read "Ulrica"  not "Unica"  - I'll post a macro close-up in daylight tomorrow, see what you think.

Good morning:

The signature is Ulrica. The bowl was designed by Ulrica Hydman Vallien

Unica is the plural for the Swedish word Unik.

A similar bowl was designed by Bertil Vallien entitled "Boda Tintomara" with the number 51722, height 2 1/4"
diameter 5 1/4". This bowl is flatter and does not have the rim of Ivo's form. Bertil's bowl appears in the 1983 Kosta Boda catalog. Note the similar number to Ulrica's bowl.

Bill, I'm not being funny here, I really would like to know.. Unica is the plural of unik? That doesn't seem logical to my wee, addled brain  :huh:

I have been living in Sweden for five years and you think the plural of Unik does not make sense.

The entire language for an English speaker - me - does not make allot of sense. There are four forms of every verb ie. dö, dör, dog, dött. Not having a ear for language, I have more than a difficulty in picking up this method of communication. It is my problem, and not the Swedes.

Thanks for the reply Bill, it was the spelling (with a c) that was baffling me..
The verbs in Danish can be a minefield too; there are more exceptions than rules!  ;D
