Hello all
I just put together a website on some toy (and miniature) glass pieces in my collection. If anyone has any info about the first item shown on this page, I would sure like to hear from you. 'Back in the Day', toys were made from wood, pewter, iron, or glass. No plastic anywhere! Toy glass was similar to bigger pieces that 'mother' had, only in half-pint sizes.

Fascinating Dave, thank you.
Christine has a small jug which (from memory) is similar to the one you have here:
http://www.vaselineglass.org/toy16.jpg which she was trying to ID... perhaps she'll check this topic later and compare them.

Yes it's just like mine, I'm on the look out for the sugar :)
Lovely bits Dave

Christine: (pssssssst, if you want a sugar, go to this ebay item number: 110364860595 )
there is one there with your name on it!

This is exciting - I so appreciate the things I can learn here. I bought a "children's decanter set" some time ago - and didn't believe it - stupidly! I thought naaa, must have been for absinthe or laudanum. Two decanters of 5" and 4", a jug of 2 1/2" and a ?cup, beaker? of 1 1/2", in what may be rosalin. There are no seams in the glass that I can see, and they appear to be of excellent quality - but I am no expert! They have a dusty green glow under UV, but no where near as strong as vaseline glass. Just fascinating - thank you for the link to your site. Have attached a photograph to show size against a "normal" size decanter and glasses - excuse my photography - just learning! Best wishes, Lesley.

Lesley, that is a pretty cool set! I don't know a thing about it, but it looks like quality glass.
Christine: I see that waffle mini-sugar bowl went unsold (opening bid was 14.95 GBP). Did you forget about it?
Dave

No I didn't forget, with postage it was just more than I was prepared to pay, wasn't too sure about the seller either.
That pink looks very Czechoslovakian, but it looks like two perfume bottles and a small sugar and creamer from the same manufacturer IMHO

Can you folks kindly take a look at this miniature vase (or is it a toothpick holder - I'm never quite sure how to tell the difference) please?
Its only 2½" high and looks as though it might be Czech, but I haven't found an exact match anywhere. Glows brilliantly under a u.v. light.
TIA ;)

Dave, thank you for replying - enjoy your site very much. I wish I knew something about the decanter set! Just liked the cut and colour. Have an unfortunate weakness for Czech rare earth doped glass. I guess you have to kiss a lot of frogs ....
Christine - thank you - I hadn't thought of perfume decanters, and the other two pieces being a separate set as they are all "cut" the same - that is a really good idea. I think it is Czech, as I bought it from a Czech site, but from reading here understand that is no guarantee!

Lesley These things were often made in big suites of all sorts of items. Try looking here when you have an hour or 10 http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/ or here http://pressglas-pavillon.de/index2.html

Thanks Christine - these sites are fabulous. Many hours reading in front of me. Lesley.

Anne E.B.: your little piece shows up in GLASS TOOTHPICK HOLDERS, (revised/2nd edition) as FRAMED OVALS. The height is right for a toothpick holder. maker and date are unknown. My personal opinion is European. It is known in clear, decorated clear, opaque blue, cobalt blue with gold decoration, opal/milk. in the book. I have also seen it in yellow vaseline/canary. your version appears to be green uranium (still uranium glass, but more green than vaseline glass). both the vaseline and green uranium versions are not listed in the book, but the authors did not document anything from 'speculation'. If they had not seen a photo or seen it in person, the color did not get listed in the book (authors are Tom and Neila Bredehoft, and Jo and Bob Sanford). book reference was in the category of 'foreign toothpick holders/date unknown/pg. 241.

p.s. I did not look in the children's glass/toy glass books......it might have also had an alternative market for toy spooners.

Thank you kindly :) Apologies for jumping in there. I should have started a new posting :-X
