Title: Fruit/salad bowls with vine design - Sowerby?
Post by: Chris Harrison on March 28, 2009, 09:50:48 AM
These two are the same, except one was flared out after initial pressing. The flared version is 10" across, the straight-up one, 8 and a half.

Can't find them in any catalogues.  I'd guess Sowerby.  Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

A negative response.  I've never seen anything like this.

So much for my guesses!
Thanks anyway, Adam.

Saw a pricy piece of carnival glass in this pattern in an antique shop window in Notts this afternoon.
Went in and asked, but "maker unknown".

Chris - Please beware of any comments I make like that.  I am NOT a comprehensive Sowerby expert - only of the period I was there plus a little of what went before!  You article could still be Sowerby of some other period - I just don't know.

Chris & Adam — I didn't reply earlier, as "not English" is not particularly helpful.   Anyway, I am fairly sure that these two bowls are not English, although they could have been made for the British market.
