Title: Old pressed platter with scrolls
Post by: aflint on March 30, 2009, 04:56:06 AM
This pattern has stumped us at http://www.chataboutdg.com (http://www.chataboutdg.com) so I am hoping someone here recognizes it.

This is a 12" serving tray or platter with a pressed scroll (which look like fern fiddleheads) design. It's nice, very clear glass, and extremely heavy. Nicely done with a polished foot and polished seam.

In Florence's Glassware Pattern Identification Guide, Volume III, by Gene & Cathy Florence it is shown on page 210 as "Scroll & Flower", Line #314 by U. S. Glass - however several authorities on American pressed glass say that is incorrect, they don't know what pattern it is, but it's not U. S. Glass.

I'm now questioning if it's an American piece in the first place.

Thanks!
Alison

Here's the candelabrum which started the ID question about this pattern. The scroll/swirl pattern on the base is the same as my platter. Perhaps this will be of help.

I bought the tray trying to ID this piece - of course now I'm pretty fond of the tray. ;)

Mod: Links to clicksnipwow removed as site is no longer connected to glass. Please visit http://chataboutdg.com/forums/ and use the search function instead.

I haven't had any luck with this one either - and I have looked and looked and looked. I can't shake the feeling that there's some info on it somewhere as the Florences must have had something to base their attribution upon. But I'm not finding anything.

Thanks to everyone that's looked, perhaps it'll pop up someday. :)
