Title: Unusual patterned glass with roman numerals hand etched
Post by: Lilian on March 30, 2009, 02:54:55 PM
HELLO ALL
I have just bought this unusual glass set...
Looks old and has a lovely pressed-moulded? glacial design to the outside. The set is heavy for its size and comprises a bowl with lid and a trinket dish-plate.
the really interesting thing is that there are roman numerals hand cut into the inner edge  of the bowl and lid - I have never seen this on glass before.
XXXXv111 with means 43 so I guess made in 1943. There is gold edging to bowl and plate-dish which is worn
Looks very hand made!!!
Any information would be much appreciated...

I think that style is termed cracked ice but I'm not sure.  They look a bit similar in design to my goblets, which I think could be French.  Sorry to be so vague!
