Title: orrefors help
Post by: tonyatl on April 04, 2009, 06:19:05 PM
i have an orrefors glass vase with mandolin and flower etching. the underside appears to be signed orrefors P 3848 NA. can anyone say what the numbers and na signify? the na could well be NR. i suspect the numbers are a form or item number. any age estimates?

Hi your vase was designed by Sven Palmqvist in the 1960s, the last two letters usually denote a date but I cant work that out. Regards Paul.

thanks for the help.....i guess i should have consulted my glass books first....after seeing this response i came across a similarly shaped vase by palmqvist dated to 1950s....so this could be 50s/60s....i would tend toward the 50s because the motif seems more in keeping with that decade but either way i now have a good date range....

... I would guess the two last letters are the initials of the engraver.
