Title: new member introduction
Post by: glassartist on April 07, 2009, 05:03:40 PM
I would like to introduce myself as a new member making my first post. I am a professional glass engraver, my main subject is wildlife but I take commissions for any subject such as portraits, houses, crests etc., all my engraving is freehand using a dental drill. I have been a professional for 28 years and used to engrave freelance for Royal Brierley crystal, now sadly gone. Pieces of my work have been presented to various members of the Royal Family, The President of the USA, The Amir of Kuwait, The Sultan of Brunei, The Sultan of Oman and many other well known people throughout the World. I have exhibited in Japan, USA, Germany, Hong Kong, and Italy. The picture of my engraving shown is a 3D vase with Chatsworth House ,Derbyshire, the house ,bridge is engraved on the back of the piece and the fallow deer on the front. The crystal vase was made by Peil and Putzler in Germany, a company which made superb crystal, but they sadly closed many years ago now.

That is some fabulous work and we're privileged to have a professional from the field of engraving to join our ranks. We hope you'll be here for a long time, and will tell us more about surface decoration in general - and about your work in particular  :hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp:

Welcome - what beautiful, detailed work - the contrast of such softness in the appearance of the fur on the deer, and the gentle expression on it's face, the texture of the muscles underlying the skin, with the hard metal on which it's worked, using such a hard mechanical tool is just awesome - and that's before I start studying the rest of the landscape or the owl.

Just kidding.  It's mind blowing work and, like when I see most art, I am amazed.

Look forward to seeing more.  Welcome.
