Title: Opalescent Stemware Identification - HELP !!
Post by: obscurities on April 07, 2009, 07:55:15 PM
I have owned these for several years and am yet unable to  attribute them to any manufacturer. Purchased at an auction from a home that was jammed to the rafters with banana boxes packed with "stuff". There were literally hundreds of boxes in the home. These had most likely been packed away since the 1960's or so. The shortest one measures 4.25 inches tall, 3.25 inches wide at the top and 1.5 inches in diameter at the base.   The middle on measures 4.75 inches tall, 2.125 inches wide at the top and 1.75 inches in diameter at the base.  The tallest one measures 5.625 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide at the top and 2.0 inches in diameter at the base. I believe them to be Scandinavian, but am not sure.

Lovely stuff!  I think they're designed by Bang and produced by Kastrup in the early sixties - but I hope one of the Danish specialists will come along and identify these in detail....

The look of them is similar to the Bang pieces, but I studied the Bang pieces I could find on the internet and although the shape is similar the pieces are not quite the same. The bowls are also a slightly different shape than the Bang design for Kastrup that I found, and also different in the stem design. Close... but not the same.  They also bear a resemblance to a Russel Wright design, although I have only seen the Wright in clear, and there is a bubble in the base. They are also slightly different in the bowl and the base than these are.  Thanks, Craig

I don't think these are from Bang's 1960 'Opaline' series - I've not seen these shapes before, and they don't seem quite angular enough to fit in with the shapes I am aware of.

Very similar in style, though: Opaline Glass (http://glashistoriskselskab.dk.server871186721.internet-server.dk/index.php?option=com_ponygallery&Itemid=69&func=detail&id=1928#ponyimg)

I agree, not the same. They are a mystery that I hope someone here will solve for me at some point. Every antique show I go to, which includes the Portland Oregon summer show, one of the the largest in the US, I have taken images to show to all of the mid-century, glassware etc dealers. No one has seen the shape before....  and they are very high quality.... Much nicer than the images show. They are distinctive enough you would think they would be recognized....

Just a bump to see if there are any fresh eyes to look at these....
