Hi can anyone help me with this one please, its a pendant on the reverse is C. J and silver marks i think for Glasgow, not sure tho as not silver expert.. If it is caithness can anyone help with value please. many thanks

Much of the range has now been ID'd on Scotland's Glass (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=143&Itemid=51) and the confusion of designer largely resolved. There were a lot of different stones and made by various from PY, PH, JD and many unknowns. There is a bit more to be added to the story... one day. Plus a lot of later production all queued up for adding.
Still need to ID some design codes too.

[This posting was prepared at the same time as Frank made his comments above - I have left my comments as they were for completeness. But please note that my summary may differ in some respects to what Frank now shows in his Scotlands Glass site(s).]
The first range of "stones" used for the CG jewellery were made by Paul Ysart, and they were in use from 1969/70 to approximately 1973 (there was a period when the stock of "stones" continued to be used after Paul had left CG in 1970/71). After Paul left, Peter Holmes took over with making of the "stones" and from 1973 most would have been Peter's work.
Although lots of different individual cane designs were used to make the stones, the finished items from Pauls work did have a "sameness" about them. This was also true of Peter's work except that his canes had what I would call a more "fluid" look about them. Even so, it is often difficult to decide whether a "stone" was by Paul or Peter.
After Peter left CG (around 1977), again his remaining "stone" stock was used and then other workers made the canes and these tended to become less complex and the colours were perhaps less varied.
The pendant shown has marks for Edinburgh 1981 suggesting the canes and the "stone" could have been later CG work. However, I think it may be one from Peter Holmes' stock used in later years.

I thought Frank and Kevin would expand on this. As Kevin says the early stones have a sameness about them - pastel shades, complex canes (like the centre of yours). I have a variety of pieces - brooches, pendants, rings, cufflinks (I am wearing a pair now) and all are different (apart from the cufflinks which match!!) but similar. You also find that the very late silver jewellery (as opposed to the non silver items Caithness made into the 90s and on) have a different style - more regular cogs, not pastel, more transluscent etc which seemed to be by a different hand.
As an aside - some people came down from Caithness a couple of years ago to give a talk to the Northern Paperweight Sociery and they had a bag of stones with them.
