appealing and unusual - and just briefly, the glass part is..........quite a thick base, with low set handle ( I assume to accommodate the pewter lid gubbins). Fairly deep star cut base (showing much wear) - although not particularly central. Height is 13.75 cms. and width at rim is just over 7cms. - with rim being bevelled slightly inside and out. Just below the rim (externally) behind the pewter upright, the glass is scribed "0,35L" - so no prizes for guessing it is continental in origin. However, the point about the post is not really the object itself - although some thoughts on age wud be very interesting (I thought somewhere between 1880 and 1920) - but rather the apparent intriguing method of attaching the pewter handle. Although I can't really show it, where the pewter is attached to the glass handle, I am unable to find a join in the metal. Did they make the handle - then slip over this the metal - and then somehow attach the glass handle to the body of the tankard?
Unfortunately, no marks on the pewter. Look forward to any thoughts - and thanks for looking. cheers Paul S.
