Title: Unusual old glass !!! custard cup?
Post by: BRADBURY7308 on May 10, 2009, 01:03:32 PM
I purchased this from a car-boot today ive never seen one like it although it doesnt look unlike a custard cup but a lot bigger at over 4" tall and just over 1/2kg in weight from my research i think it might be classed as a deceptive glass or type?? it has an applied handle done like custard cups also. Lots of wear to the base i think its mould blown as there are no seams up the sides either i feel its quite early. Any ideas?

First it is a not custard cup but a press moulded tumbler converted into a tankard.  From the outside shape and also the taper inside l would think it was made at about 1850-1860. Usually the tumbler at this time is about 10cm high.
I think you should be very pleased with your purchase as converted tankard is much harder to find.
