Hello,
I bought this lovely piece a few days ago, The seller said it was his last piece of Murano from his collection he had sold. I saw a similar piece on Ebay which said it was Holmgaard (auction has ended) Its about 8 inches across (20cm) and has a snail like handle, its very plain and its a beautiful shade of green. Any info on age etc welcome. Thanks Cheryl.

I'm certain that it's not Holmegaard. Beyond that, I've no idea.
-
The one I was looking at on ebay has been relisted, still on as Holmgaard, would it be rude to ask seller why he thought it was Holmgaard?
Cheryl
-
No, it would not be rude, as long as one did not ask rudely :chky:
I would probably ask what they were basing the Holmegaard attribution on and see what they say......

I have to add that nothing about it strikes me as Holmegaard...... although it does not really strike me as Murano either...

I seem to recall Ivo saying that this bright bottle green was a characteristic of Empoli, Italy, production. I've see a carafe this colour by Bormioli from that area too. Might be a direction to explore.

Oh well, I've asked the seller on Ebay where he got his attribution from as politely as I could, just have to wait for an answer. Sorry I have spelt Holmegaard wrong (missed the E ) :-[ Cheryl

I have an answer already from the seller on Ebay, he bought his as Holmegaard, it said it on the label .He said he had also seen oher listings attributed to Holmegaard from 20th Century Glass, the mystery deepens!! ;D Cheryl

Was it a label someone put on it to sell it, or was it a factory label? Or did the seller say?
I am certainly not a Holmegaard expert, but I have seen and handled quite a number of pieces, and ignoring everything else about the shape, the color seems way off from anything I have seen by them IMHO

If it was a factory label (he didn't say) I would not have thought he would have taken it off. I have searched the 20th century glass ebay shop and can not find any past sales showing in his feedback like my dish. I did not mean to start one of those threads questioning a seller on ebay but it does make me wonder where attributions come from. The man I bought it from was quite sure it is a piece of Murano glass!! Does anybody here know the 20th century glassman to ask him directly his opinion on my bowl? cheryl

Attributions by the 20th Century Glass seller on eBay are often best ignored - he was the worst Holmegaard keyword spammer on there for a long time, with many pieces of nasty-quality Chinese glass listed as HG. In fact, he still has most of it - now downgraded to just generic "Scandinavian glass".
But, generally, most of the glass on eBay listed as Holmegaard... isn't Holmegaard at all.

I suppose thats what people were saying on another link recently about if one seller sells something with the wrong attribution other people copy them as fact. It all gets a bit complicated doesn't it? I was hoping it was HG but its not looking like it now. Trouble is someone might buy the one on Ebay thinking it is HG and its not. Its another case of knowing what you buy dispite the listing heading being wrong. My husband says it would be like selling a Honda motorcycle when really its a Kawasaki!! (hes a biker!!!) ;D I still love my dish!! Cheryl

Hello, yes thats the same one I saw, hes not having much luck selling it!!! Its the same as mine, its a lovely looking piece of glass, its so smooth to touch and the colour is beautiful. Cheryl

Quite a notorious seller, check out there descriptions and titles on other adverts, they also have other accounts and keep changing names on them so quite confusing.
It looks like something ive seen before but i just cant place it at the moment, if i remember i will let you know
all the best

Hi, The seller starts most listings with the words 'in my opinion'. I suppose he does that so he can then claim a piece is made by a better known maker than it actually is. Have to be very careful with listings like that. Cheryl.
