Title: Nautllus shell bowl
Post by: langhaugh on May 25, 2009, 04:52:30 AM
This bowl is far from my usual interest, but it caught by attention and wallet (or perhaps I should say change pocket, as it was very cheap), even although part of me thinks it might be a refugee from T.J. Mexx, or whatever it's called.

It's very heavy, 4 1/2 lbs, almost 11" across, and 3" high. On the exterior of the bowl, the nautilus shells are in deep relief, almost 1" deep. The inside of the bowl is smoother, although each shell is indented. A quick google found a similar one on eBay, 200344466004, with a frosted exterior, but the US seller didn't know where it was made.  The attraction for me is how it diffracts the light. It looks very nice in the sunlight.

Can anyone shed any more light for me? Thanks.

Langhaugh, think Winners. That's the Canadian equivalent for TJ Maxx. They might actually be owned by the same gang, but I'm not sure about that.

That makes sense, Carolyn (i.e TJ Maxx = Winners). Are you saying that you've seen the bowl at Winners? I paid $5.00 for it so I regard it as a bargain, whatever, and I still quite like it. It will be used.

Nope, just know that TJ Maxx and Winners are related and the home furnishing stores are both called Home Sense. There may be another store in the bunch in the States, but I am not sure. I think it is called TJ Maxx in Britain as well, but again, I'm not sure.  ::)

It's TK Maxx in the UK (no idea why they changed TJ to TK, but there you go!)  Incidentally there seems to be a new TK Maxx opening in what was Woolworths in Lancaster soon.
