This lilac footed bowl or glass is 4.25 inches high and the same at its widest diameter. It has a ribbed effect best felt from the inside but also seen to good effect. There is a polished concave pontil but no other distinguishing marks that I can see. The glass is quite thick with a rounded rim and the piece weighs almost 650g. It is absolutely beautiful and has the "feel" of an old piece but who made it? I have tried the Whitefriars Board and I have trailed through the Whitefriars catalogues to no avail. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

John, I wondered about Webb as well, then whilst browsing through the Whitefriars Auction Results pages just now I can across a similar looking vase on this page... scroll down to the 27th row of images (about 3/4 of the way down the page) and you'll see Purple Optic Rib.   It would be worth posting your photos onto the Is It Whitefriars site for a confirmation from the experts over there. :)

Thank you both for your replies. My immediate thought was Webb or Whitefriars so I examined the base very closely but cannot find he usual etched Webb mark. I also listed it on the Is it Whitefriars site where there has been no written response but it has received 2 "no" votes.

I looked at the link to the auction you mentioned Ann and the shape is identical. My example is in lilac or pale purple coloured glass whereas with the auctioned one, the purple colouring looked uneven. However, they are surely linked in some way due to the exactness of the shape.
I think I need to enlist a pair of younger eyes to examine the base - I have been caught out before with these faint etched marks - though my gut eaction was that it was Whitefriars.
