Title: Seguso Lamp with sfumato - was this converted from a candlestick?

Just bought this to add to my Seguso collection and I am a bit worried that it might have been a candlestick in a prior life. The hole that the wire goes through looks old and smooth.

The label points to Archimedes Seguso and the sfumato looks similar to other Seguso pieces I have.

Does anyone know this form?

All thoughts from the glitterati are appreciated.

Hi Ardy,  I am not familiar with the form as such, but I doubt it is a converted candlestick. IMHO No one could get that lucky to find a fitting that would work that well on a conversion.  ;D

It is a nice lamp....

Thanks Craig that's encouraging.

Does anyone know if it was common practice to have the cord going through the piece? most others I have seen have a groove at the bottom of the lamp to allow for the cord.

Ardy,

The way the cord goes through the base, there appears from the pics, to be a plastic fitting there that the cord goes through. It would protect the cord from the glass. Although I can only see the underside of the hole and not the top, this type of fitting would also lead me to believe it would be designed that way. Most of the conversions I have seen, usually have a rough drilled hole with not protective element. I think that a lot of lamps use the notch in the base because it would just an easier and less expensive way of doing it, but functionally it is really a pain in the ass every time you move the lamp to get the cord in just the right spot so it sits straight....
