Title: Yellow Glass Vase Glows Orange in BlackLight
Post by: TxSilver on May 30, 2009, 11:18:42 PM
This is a 12" yellow vase that I recently bought. I'm a novice when it comes to Scandinavian glass, so please forgive if this is not Scandinavian. It looks like some of the Aseda vases I have seen. The rim of the vase looked like it may have a touch of opalescent vaseline glass, so I checked under blacklight. The vase glows orange with a touch of yellow. I checked with Dave's site on vaseline glass and read that this may be because of manganese. I'm definitely open to other explanations, though.

Does anyone know who made the vase. The base is polished with a thumbprint recessed pontil. The rim is not ground.

I think that orange is caused by cadmium, which often seems to be used to colour yellow glass. Manganese gives a much less bright either orangey or greenish glow

Moderators, could we move this vase over to the general glass board? I'm not sure it is Scandinavian. Maybe someone will recognize it. Thanks!
