Any ideas what this might be please? It looks like a stand of some sort if turned one way, or a container if turned the other. The finish is nicer if used as a stand.
TIA :)

What size is it Anne? :)

The sides just measure 1¾" each at the bottom and 1" each at the top (pic.1. view) and 1¾" high, so quite small really, and about the size of a small piano rest, which is what I thought it might be when I first spotted it.

Anne & Max — Undecorated it's the Sowerby 1215 salt, according to pattern book IX, c.1882. But there's something odd about this one as Cottle shows it as registered design No 87777 of 24 November 1887, against which I have a great big question mark.
Found it — See topic Sowerby Slag Glass Salts (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,18971.0.html).
