Title: Glass Brick stem vase, - ID = Walther solifleur
Post by: wiggy131 on June 11, 2009, 06:45:10 PM
Hi,
my Uncle found this in the local charity shop, not sure if it's of any value, but looks like an art glass piece, does anyone recognise this style? Quite heavy glass and isn't signed on the base. About 24cm wide I think.
Thanks for your help!
Vickie

jumping into it: could it be a Heiner Düsterhaus design for Walther Siebenstern also - like so many of these solifleurs? Ivo? Die-äerk?

Thankyou for your quick reply Pamela, yes that definatley looks like Walther glass. I put the name into google and came up with a few images that were simular to that style, so thankyou.
Do you think it's worth about GBP 30 pounds?
Thanks
Vickie

Vickie, we have to wait for Ivo's and Dirk's and many other's contribution, I'm afraid! I was just jumping into it with my thoughts ! and far away from estimating a possible value - sorry  :-X

Looks like Walther to me too - so probably not a great value.

Walther, absolutely...
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,23838.0.html
comes in round and rectangular, each form in (at least) three sizes,
the protruding part matted or not => makes 12 variations (as far as
i know)

we usually don´t answer questions about values here, but you should
consider to have a look at ebay.de and either use some of the following
keywords: walther, vase, massive, solifleur, waltherglas... in different
combination or (better / cheaper) browse the following category:
kaufen > möbel und wohnen > dekoration - blumentöpfe & vasen > material - glas
from time to time...

personally i´ve never paid more than 1€ for it. siebenstern is just around the
corner and the fleamarkets here are full of them. i only take them with me,
when i find my rucksack simply doesn´t feel full enough...  ;)

edit: hi Ivo, we were just crossing...  ;D

Hi Dirk,
thanks for all the great info, I have never heard of a solifleur untilll today! I have learnt something new! I have look on German ebay and someone is selling a set of 3 for 49 Euro's.
Maybe it's the novelty of the design for us in UK, I can see where the Troika comparison is.
Ok anoher question solved!
Vickie ;D
