Title: Rare ? No. not really...
Post by: tropdevin on June 14, 2009, 06:45:09 PM
**

I have serious doubts about the seller of this OLd and RARE paperweight  (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574631383&toolid=10001&campid=5336261829&customid=&icep_item=270408596333&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg) which closely resembles current production Chinese items. I pointed out to the seller what the two paperweights were and why I though that -in my opinion - in a very polite way, and got the staccato responses 'clever' and 'clever again'. In my experience sellers are nearly always grateful for advice, happy to discuss opinions, and willing to change their listings if they feel they are wrong. That does not seem to be the case here.  Looking at the seller's negative feedback using 'Toolhaus' is enlightening.

NB This post was modified to incorporate Alan's reply to the next post, which is from KevH. I think I may have confused it more, rather than my intended clarification. Alan, to modify your post, there should be a button labelled Modify on your own posts just after the button for Quote, at the top right of your posts.

Alan,

The item linked to is not too much different from lots of other Chinese weights (and lots of other things, too) offered on eBay with what some of us know to be innacurate descriptions (and perhaps rather hopeful prices).

However, since the seller seems to currently offer very few paperweights amongst their thousands of items in Store and List, they may simply be unware of the facts about the weights. Have you advised the seller of the facts?

Saying,

together with

Check out the other items offered for sale too!
is not the same as drawing attention to a particular item and needs to be considered in line with the Board Guidelines which state:

Hi Kev

I pointed out to the seller what the two paperweights were and why I though that -in my opinion - in a very polite way, and got the staccato responses 'clever' and 'clever again'. In my experience sellers are nearly always grateful for advice, happy to discuss opinions, and willing to change their listings if they feel they are wrong. That does not seem to be the case here.  Looking at the seller's negative feedback using 'Toolhaus' is enlightening.

Regarding 'Check out the seller's other auctions', I put a similar invitation in my own adverts.....I am at a loss to understand why such wording is a problem.

Hi Alan,
I can see why you were so angry with the seller. Some people can be very rude for little or no reason. Our problem is that we have put together our guidelines to prevent too much argument and having created them we need to stick by them. I know you don't see eye to eye with me on that, but it would be a lot easier all round if you could modify your first post to say that you wrote to the seller and the response you got etc.
Please - and hopefully thank you
Angela

Hi

Happy to modify my post, but I cannot see how to do it.

Thanks for the extra info, Alan. And thanks for your input, too, Angela.

As Alan cannot edit his own initial post, because of other posts being made afterwards, I will tidy up the thread ... ... hopefully soon. Trouble is, I am currently working with my pc in "Safe Mode" and have only just managed to get it to a point where I can get into the web again.
