I would like to know if the decanter pictured would have had a mushroom stopper similar to the decanter behind it? Bought it without a stopper and would like to find the proper shaped one to complete it. regards Carol

Carol
The stopper for your Regency decanter is either a Mushroom or Target/Bull eye. I think a Target/Bull eye is better as this is the type of stopper for simple cutting decanter such as yours.

Thank you Ming for the suggestion- I was leaning toward the mushroom stopper but I will try for a bullseye as well- regards Carol

Sorry to be a late party pooper but this is an early Victorian decanter (1850-60), sometimes known as bludgeon decanters. This would have had a tall spire stopper with panel cut sides.
I have 5 matching ones you can see here:

Hi Kevin B, many thanks for your reply, better late than never - so you have any spare spire stoppers though??? Ha Ha I will try and see if any are available here in NZ where the weather is sunny, sunny, drought conditions!
Again my thanks, regards Carol

I have a couple more spire decanters, that aren't exact matches for those 5. I also have several spire stoppers, but unless you have a specialist restorer in New Zealand that can fit it, it isn't worth sending one all that way.
If you look at my web site you can see the write up I did of one of the bludgeon decanters. At some point I will get around to adding the one I have in a slightly different pattern, and rephotographing that one with a half size one of the same pattern.

These do occasionally come up on eBay in the UK and sell very cheaply.
