Title: Franco Moretti 'Love Birds' Signed to Base
Post by: David555 on October 05, 2005, 10:30:38 PM
Hi

I was on a bit of a buying spree today – I got this beautiful Murano ‘Love Birds’ in fantastic hand crafted quality – with a sommerso blue running through – the delicate fan tails in excellent condition, it’s 4” high and almost 9” long - lovingly ground and polished base

I know its Moretti as that is the first etched word – what is the second?  I don’t think this is Carlo Moretti, it came from a 1960s lot and it is not his style

Here are the photos

Any help with dates, factory – is it Ercole, Ulderico - mmmmmmmmmm

Very like my love birds and with the older style signature I am saying mine are by Carlo Moretti c 1960s - I still can't get that second word looks like it starts with an S - Srom_ _ _ _

It seems unlikely the other firms Moretti, Ercole, e Fratelli - Fused-murrhine costume jewellery, beads, buttons & dishes or Moretti & C, Ulderico - industrial glass. Ulderico Moretti (murrhine bowls, 1930s) made this

I have sent all pics with a archive request to Moretti, but I ain't holding my breath LOL

Ahh

Carlo Moretti got back the very next day - a bit clipped but to the point

Dear customer,
in answer to you e-mail sent us today, we inform you that
item "love birds" is not  produced by Carlo Moretti firm. It was produced by Franco Moretti.

    Regards.

                CARLO MORETTI SRL

So that will be the signature Franco Moretti - it doesn't really look like Franco but who am I to argue

Franco Moretti, son of Alessandro Moretti 1922-1998

Franco has long since been considered a maestro in his own right and has worked for the likes of Peggy Guggenheim

I think the signature from googling is while his Father was still alive mid to late 1970s as the company 'Ercole Moretti' make mostly beads, lighting and murrine bowls and jewellery

Is all that correct? :?  :?

I am sorry; my brother is in Europe at the Franco Moretti Glass Factory and you will have to contact him directly for any details on his company's works.

What do they mean Franco is in Europe, where is the website owner, after looking more deeply I can only assume it is Franco's sister Yvonne?

The way the page reads on the website it looked as if I could contact Franco through it, but it is a Moretti family information site run by Yvonne, I think. I also think she has settled in South Africa or is it USA, bit confusing, I think it's in the USA from the photo gallery

I am guessing http://www.ercolemoretti.it/dynalay.asp?PAGINA=319 Ercole Moretti is where Franco is?

I have emailed him, if anyone knows differently give me a shout

The birds are made by my brother, Franco Moretti who lives in Venice, Italy.  His factory is in Murano, Italy.  His webmail is francomoretti.com. I live in the United States. I hope I have cleared up your confusion. Regards. Yvonne Moretti
