Yup, mine's handmade too complete with polished pontil mark on the base. That's why I've made sure it keeps its label as without it you'd never suspect Taiwan!

thankyou for the replys ,it is 8 inches accross the top and 3 inches tall the base pattern appears different from the bowl with the taiwan label i had a good look earlier so im none the wiser. sorry the pictures look so small the base is very worn looking .

That base looks very Whitefriars to me. Try the catalogues here http://whitefriars.com/catalogues/ the colour you are looking for is Ruby = R

Is it cased in clear?

Hiya!

I'm sure this is whitefriars, pattern 9408, I have a kingfisher one. Love it, nice bowl.

The clear casing seems visible in the first photo uploaded, you can see it at the top of the bowl.  A lovely bowl

I paid £25 for mine, after haggling over a flea bite on the pontil.  If you follow my link to the whitefriars site, you'll find a discussion about the price. Seems it varies hugely.

I once sold a whitefriars elephant's foot on ebay and think I got about ten or twelve pounds for it, my son sold one recently and his fetched under £3.50. Luck of the draw I guess. Hope you enjoy it, it's one of my favourite pieces too.

For some reason the Ruby Whitefriars is'nt all that popular, unless its an unusual shape. ive got quite a bit of it boxed up somewhere, although i do think the value will come back up, its certainly at a low at the moment.
I have to say the ruby is probably my favorite colour well its between that and kingfisher.
all the best
