Title: Bristol Blue posy vases?
Post by: glassobsessed on July 02, 2009, 04:48:24 PM
These have been in the family for a while, but after I impersonated a vulture they are now live on my windowsill. They stand around 5 inches or 12.5cm tall.

Are they likely to have been made in Bristol and how old are they?

Many thanks, John.

Hi John,
I would think the colour could be described as Bristol Blue, but i think age and actual origin
may be more difficult to determine.
Cheers
Andy

Bristol blue is a bit of an urban myth. It is more likely that Bristol blue refers back to the fact that cobalt was imported into England via Bristol.

Now that makes a certain kind of sense....

That's not to say that cobalt blue glass was never made in Bristol; it undoubtedly was and still is today http://www.bristol-glass.co.uk/xcart/home.php
