Found this nice set in a charity shop, 4 tall Champagne flutes, (8 1/4 inches 21cm tall)
5 large goblets (7 3/4inches 19.5cm tall)
Each hand made, thick and heavy, broken pontils applied foot.
Goldy/amber, variation in colours.
Would they be battuto cut? 4 rows of long slice unpolished cuts.
Any ideas? Id love to know, Im thinking Italians like their goblets, and this style of cut,
or maybe British studio?? Very good quality! ;D
Cheers all,
Andy

The glass does look battuto. The glass looks a little heavy to be Venini. There are some other Italian companies that do battuto, as well as companies in other countries. They are nice glasses.

Battuto seems to be very popular right now, with a number of companies doing it, as Anita suggests. For example, I've seen some Indian glass that uses the technique, albeit not very well. This looks quite well done, but I agree with Anita that it doesn't look like Venini. I would tend to think they're from a third world country, as these would be very labour intensive. They're interesting, great to look at, but I can't imagine I'd like drinking from them, or rather, that they would be my first choice for drinking vessel.

I have a large green vase with the same pattern that was made by a company called Colony, i havent looked into them yet, but the vase is heavy, well made, and also has a polished pontil, which is not to say that they were not mass produced, i will see if i can find the company web site.
found.........www.colony.com

Battuto on larger vases has been done in recent time by companies from Poland and from India (I think) - but a large supplier since circa 1995 is somewhere in the north of Italy. They are practically specialised in the technique. Sorry I forgot the name.

Thanks everyone,
Sue, not sure theres a connection with that website, mostly smelly stuff and candles.
Im thinking they are the sort of item you may find in a good department store in the UK,
Selfridges , John Lewis, rather than studio, probably sort of wedding pressie stuff (obviously
not appreciated by the recipient)
I cant imagine they would be cheap!
Id guess European in manufacture, rather than far east.
I also expect they each had a lovely big label on them when bought! ::)
I will search a few more Italian companies. Please keep eyes peeled when shopping in
Posh shops! ;D
Cheers,
Andy

Just looking at some classic Italian shape goblets, i see most have flared rims, so maybe
shape not quite right for italy
