Purchased this with the other vase in my last post today couldnt resist at a £! it has controlled bubbles a bit like the type whitefriars does but i would say not as well done any ideas who may have done it? The vase has a clear base then begins the colour orange up the sides. The base is quite unsual as it is quite marked around the outside age but the centre portion is a whitish colour with lots of tooling marks to it the vase measures 9" approx tall thanks for looking. :hiclp:

Hi, I saw a vase very similar to yours just the other day with a portmeirion sticker on it, don't know what kind of age it was but i think fairly modern. I have a green bulb shaped vase with the same kind of Ariel pattern in it and reckoned mine was portmeirion. David

No idea what Portmeirion retails nowadays - but they do not produce glass. Possibly this straightforward and roughly finished piece started life in Romania or in Poland - perhaps even China...

sorry Ivo dont like to disagree but Portmerion do produce glass, there is certainly a company which make glass and use the word Portmerion on there stickers (and i mean the main company name wording, not the "made in" part). Ive seen alot of pieces which are stickered and one or two which have the etched mark to the base.
Ive seen a couple which do look similar to this piece but to be honest ive never really paid that much attention to say how similar.. sorry
all the best

that is why i used the word "retails".

Ivo, In support of my Portmeirion theory, the famous ceramics producer, did produce and retail glass products (tableware and vases) Slainte David

Yer nippin ma heid. Sticking your label on bought glass does not make you a glass producer.
-
I had a set of Portmeirion tumblers for eveyday use actually marked on the box Made In Thailand.
-
i dont know technically who made it but they do design it (im not suggesting all of the glass they sell is designed by them though) as alot of the patterns from they pottery including botanics was used on the glass too

Quote from 2008 annual report Portmerion group plc, page 7
Principal activities
The Group markets ceramic tableware, cookware and giftware, glassware, candles, placemats, coasters and other associated products, and manufactures ceramics. There have been no changes in activities during the year.
The report also says that in 2008 58% of the ceramics was made in Stoke on Trent and 42% was outsourced to China
As Ivo says Portmerion does not make glass

Frank Thrower worked at Portmeirion before going to Dartington so there is a link between the two companies - although having said that this particular vase is obviously nothing whatsoever to do with Frank Thrower or Dartington. I'm sure I read somewhere that contemporary Portmeirion branded glass was manufactured in Poland.
