I don't know for sure who made this butterfly weight (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574631383&toolid=10001&campid=5336261829&customid=&icep_item=220452711484&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg), but it looks like a J Glass one to me. Any views?

Dear Alan and Roy,
I feel like boasting a bit so I enclose a copy of the message I sent to the seller
of the butterfly weight when it first appeared (see below):
I am no expert but I have seen a similar design of butterfly by John
Deacons.
I found a version of it on the website of p**********24 in
the archive gallery for 2009 at the top left-hand corner of p. 11.
The canes are much more sophisticated than the one you show, but there is a
resemblance. Could it be an experimental weight made by him in the very early
years of Perthshire? I have seen one other trial weight that he testified
was made by him in this period without signature cane.
So I definitely agree with you both!!! ;D
It is amazing how so little knowledge (I mean my own, of course) can go to one's head!!!

Perhaps this will help matters....
I have an almost identical butterfly paperweight, sames base, canes, colouration etc.
My example rather helpfully has a Deacons paper label and his characteristic 1 9 9 2 signature canes.
So as definite as I can be - John Deacons circa early 1990's!!!
