Hi John

Thought there was always a little P with Perthshire, and I can not find one...

Definitely Perthshire. Weights before 1978 did not have the 'P' cane.

Oh I din't know that, It was in a lot of two items, one being a Whitefriars, with the little monk cane, but this one I knew nothing about.
I wish to post it on ebay can you give me a rough idea of value and any other info please.
Trying to recoup some of my funds for the Whitefriars..... ;D

Value is hard to say. Values in books tend to be more inflated than actual selling prices. I've seen them sell on eBay for as low as 60 and as much as 160.

Hi Woodie,

An extra bit of information is that it is a "PP1" design. The comments by glasstrufflehunter are spot on. There is no defined eBay selling price for these. Even though they are good quality, there were a lot of them made. You could get an idea about possible sale price by searching eBay for past examples - they come up quite often.

If you do sell it on eBay, please consider adding a reference to glassmessages.com for any info in your listing that was provided here. And do add a post for it in the Market Place forum when you put the listing up.

Also, regarding your Whitefriars weight, are you aware that Caithness bought the rights to use the Monk cane when Whitefriars closed in 1980 and that any weight with a Whitefriars Monk signature cane after 1980 will be Caithness, not a true Whitefriars?

Hi woodie

I've seen PP1s sell for as little as £20 on eBay - but you might well get more. There was a mad spell a year or so ago when a couple went for well over £100, but I'm sure that was an anomaly (either two over-enthusiastic buyers, or the common scam of trying to encourage the muppets). In my view, be pleased if you get £40!
